Think Global Recruitment's Charity Pub Quiz - Come along!

On Friday 28^th October we will be hosting a Spooktacular Pub Quiz in Lulu’s bar, Edinburgh, where you can come along and test your wits against the living and the (brain) dead!


In keeping with our mission to help charities both at home and abroad we have picked another two fantastic causes Old MacDonald's Farm & Vintage Vibes!

Old MacDonald’s Farm

Fifteen years ago we assisted Don MacDonald and his family make the move of a lifetime to Zambia. Fast forward to 2016 and after contacting accountants that we had helped to move overseas, we discovered the charity project they had set up all those years ago.

Don and his wife Christine began helping street children in Lusaka back in 2001, inviting them in every Sunday for a shower, a home cooked meal and to get some clean clothes. Noticing the sheer volume of street children in the local community, they felt something needed to be done to help. Old MacDonald’s Farm was born and has since combined several projects on the same site including a home for vulnerable children, a community school and a teaching farm. Over the years their family have grown rapidly with the addition of more young boys staying with them, and at one point they had 40 extra children! In 2013, the BBC made a documentary about the farm which highlighted just how appreciated the charity has become within the Lusaka community.

Vintage Vibes

For our local charity we have chosen one which a member of our team (Tilly) volunteers with. Vintage Vibes is a service that pairs up volunteers with people in Edinburgh who are over 60 years old and are feeling isolated or lonely. The aim of the charity is to encourage friendship between all generations and provide companionship to those who need it most.

“I come from a big family and have always been very close with my grandparents who were always surrounded by many friends and family but many other older people are not as lucky... Vintage Vibes are making a real difference to over 60s in Edinburgh who are lonely and isolated – visiting them in their homes or going out for a walk or a coffee. For me, they were the obvious choice for a charity for us to support at our TGR Charity Quiz Night!”- Tilly

Think Global Recruitment's Spooktacular Halloween Quiz

Location: Lulu’s Bar, George Street, Edinburgh

Tickets are £10 each, which includes:

- Participation in our 5-round Pub Quiz

- VIP Entry to Lulu nightclub

- A refreshment of your choice on arrival - option for bubbly, beer or non-alcoholic drinks available

- Nibbles to enjoy during the quiz

- Exclusive access to VIP area and table reservation when the club opens to the public at 10pm

There will also be a Spooktacular Photo Booth with props and costumes, and a Raffle on the night

Fancy dress is optional, but encouraged, as of course it is Halloween weekend!

Teams will be up to 5, so please bring along your friends and join in!

Charity Horse Racing Night- How much did we raise?

Now we’ve all had a week to recover and count the pennies it’s time to make the big reveal…

 

BUT before that we would like to thank all those that came along or donated to this event. Asides from a few technical hiccups we could not have hoped for a better night.
 

MC Cramond did brilliantly as our very own John McCririck, the two bearded men on the tables ensured you could place all your bets and Reece did a fantastic job acting as our charity bouncer and raffle ticket dispenser.

A massive thanks to the businesses that supported this event including CloudCover, Kumo Ink, Lemon Squeezy Driving School, fatBuzz and Edinburgh Copyshop for sponsoring our horses and to all those many other businesses that donated raffle prizes. A special congratulations goes to the lucky individual who won the impromptu auction of our Payatas FC football shirt!

So here it is folks the magic number from the night- of which all proceeds will be going directly to our two charities Marie Curie & Fairplay for All…

Think Global Recruitment presents... Charity Horse Racing and Raffle Night!

Our team has been putting in a lot of hard work and planning over the last few months organising our Charity Horse Racing Night, which is being held tomorrow –Friday the 22^nd of July, 7pm at the Hibs Supporters Association. This year, our team have decided to support two very deserving charities: Marie Curie and Fairplay for All, who do incredible work at home & abroad. Asides from the races there are some fantastic prizes available to win on the night with a raffle- a huge thank you to all those businesses who kindly contributed!

For  this fundraiser we will be supporting Marie Curie’s hospice in Edinburgh, where they provide support for people living with any terminal illness and their families, including 24/7 expert palliative care, as well as offering services to visitors. Marie Curie is one of the most recognised British charities in cancer care and has been carrying out this essential work for over 65 years! Their services are vital to many people in the UK and their families. Last year alone they cared for over 40,000 people across the UK!

As an international business, part of our company ethos is to support international charitable causes, so we have decided to share this fundraiser with another very worthwhile cause, “Fairplay for All”. They are dedicated to creating opportunities for some of the poorest children in the Philippines, helping them to holistically and sustainably break the cycle of poverty through sport and education.  Fairplay For All's projects include the Payatas Football Club, where children can experience a safe place to have fun and play football and the Fairplay Café where a range of healthy meals are on offer.

Payatas FC began in 2011 with 80 kids playing barefoot on a basketball court. Now the team has several players invited to the National Youth Team. The players are amongst the poorest children in the country and due to malnourishment are sometimes only half the size of their opponents. Yet they are very successful because of their heart and determination. Three of the girls were part of Team Philippines in the Street Child World Cup, held in Brazil 2014, where they won the silver medal!

Having gone from strength to strength each year, they have big plans for 2016, building their Sports Centre and Fairplay Academy while expanding on their social enterprises.

THINK Charity

Here at Think Global Recruitment, we take corporate social responsibility very seriously.  With a vision of improving lives, we are always looking for ways to help others.

This year, we have already sponsored a number of events and last month, six, brave members of our team took part in a 135ft abseil off Murrayfield Stadium.  It was a great day and with a target of £600, they managed to raise £790.50 for the Stroke Association.  That is 132% of the original target and all for a fantastic cause!  Here's a photo of our team suited and booted in their abseil gear - hair nets included!

Over the next year (we have all split up into small teams) we are hoping to raise £2,500 for a charity called B1G1.  This is a micro-finance charity that supports people starting their own business.  It operates in many countries around the world and we have already donated enough money to provide 240 days of education support to disadvantaged children in Zimbabwe, hired a rickshaw for a month for 30 drivers in India, provided a lady in India with a sewing machine to set up a tailoring business and provided 1 life education program to a disadvantaged person in South Africa.  We will be running a number of events to raise money and more than likely take part in some silly activities (like climbing the dizzying heights of Edinburgh's rugby stadium and jumping off)...

We are really hoping to make a difference and improve some more lives this year so wish us luck!!
